April Feller: Fostering a Culture of Exceptional Customer Service
By Amy Steinbrech
August 10, 2015
April Feller is no stranger to hard work. Thirteen years ago, the Draper mom of six started a mobile device protection products company, BodyGuardz, as a small operation in her basement with her children fulfilling orders after school. Today, that company has grown into a solid organization with 45 employees that provides thousands of protection products to mobile device users throughout the world.
Feller, owner and chair of the board at BodyGuardz, and her husband, Kirk, president and CEO of BodyGuardz, have seen their company blossom into what is now the sixth fastest growing woman-owned company in the nation, according to the Women Presidents’ Organization and American Express. BodyGuardz grew by over 300 percent in 2014 alone and shows no signs of slowing down.
What type of products does BodyGuardz offer?
Our primary mission at BodyGuardz is to protect the devices of those we serve. With that as our motivating force, we are driven to provide the highest-quality products at reasonable prices. We offer a wide variety of protection for your mobile devices including ScreenGuardz that provide both impact and scratch protection; clear skins that provide crystal clear full-body protection; carbon fiber armor, which is a stylish protective skin; and a wide assortment of cases designed to enhance the beauty of your device and protect your investment.
What sets BodyGuardz apart from the competition?
Our distinct competitive advantages are our employees and our award-winning customer service. At BodyGuardz, we believe in working hard and having fun while we do it, and our team embodies that idea. When you say the word “BodyGuardz,” you are saying who our amazing employees are. We only hire the best in the industry and our employees are truly top notch. We also value our customers more than anything, and we devote a lot of time and attention to customer service. We received the 2011 International Service Award for our outstanding customer service.
What is the guiding force that directs your company in its daily decisions?
We have a set of core values at BodyGuardz that govern and guide the company. We also believe that if you hire the right people, the business end of things will fall into place. Our six core values are quality, hard work, integrity, customer service, innovation and giving back. All six values feed off of each other and allow us to work as one cohesive unit. All of our employees have the core values on their desks and their reviews are based on how well they reflect these values. We have also been very fortunate to form strategic partnerships with companies that share our same values. It has been refreshing to see companies in the very competitive mobile device industry do what they say and say what they do.
What accomplishment are you most proud of since starting BodyGuardz?
I have loved creating a company where we can provide quality products to others and foster a work environment where people can thrive and support their families.
What new products is the company planning to introduce?
This fall we will be launching two new brands that will have a variety of expanded accessories, not just for protection but for all lines. These brands will launch BodyGuardz into other markets we are not currently in. This will be a new and exciting frontier for us.
