SALT LAKE AREA
Salt Lake City – The UNIVERSITY OF UTAH celebrated the opening of its newest building on campus, a new, sustainable home for the S.J. Quinney College of Law. After two years of construction, the building is completed and designed to be a LEED platinum building. The U’s law school is the first on the West Coast designed to earn this designation.
Salt Lake City – The GOVERNOR’S OFFICE OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT board approved two new cable series for state film incentives. The HBO series West World was approved for a maximum tax credit of $461,948. Mosaic, the second HBO series authorized, is estimated to spend over $10 million in the state.
Salt Lake City – NORIDIAN, the Medicare administrative contractor for MYRIAD GENETICS, issued a final local coverage determination (LCD) for Prolaris, Myriad’s prognostic test for assessing the aggressiveness of prostate cancer. The final LCD provides Medicare coverage for prostate cancer patients defined as low and very low risk by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.
Salt Lake City – WESTERN GOVERNORS UNIVERSITY (WGU) marked a major milestone—50,000 graduates in just 15 years. Additionally, WGU will award 100 Back-to-School Scholarships, worth up to $2,000 each, to 100 new students who apply this fall to attend the nonprofit, online university.
Salt Lake City – Lancaster Choice Energy, the City of Lancaster, California’s new, locally-operated, locally-controlled clean power provider, awarded SPOWER a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to provide 10MWac of solar power. The power will be generated at the sPower Western Antelope Dry Ranch facility, which will be located at 105th Street West and Avenue J in Lancaster in northern LA County. Construction is expected to begin in mid-2016, with a commercial operations date (COD) by the end of 2016.
North Salt Lake – BERKADIA announced the recent sale and financing of The Pointe, a multifamily property located at 55 W. Center Street in North Salt Lake. James Wadsworth and Greg Barratt of Berkadia’s Salt Lake City office negotiated the sale of the property. Managing Director Clay Akiwenzie of the San Francisco office originated the loan.
Salt Lake City – SUMMIT MATERIALS, INC. completed the acquisition of LEGRAND JOHNSON CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, a vertically integrated construction materials company based in Utah and servicing the northern and central Utah, western Wyoming and southern Idaho markets. LeGrand operates five sand and gravel pits along with four ready mix concrete plants and five asphalt plants. LeGrand will become part of Summit’s KILGORE COMPANIES business in Utah.
Salt Lake City – PRIMARY RESIDENTIAL MORTGAGE, INC. (PRMI) launched a new logo. In its original design, the triangle was created to symbolize the roof of a home but was later changed to represent the pyramid. The pyramid was chosen because its several sides come together to make a zenith or focus. In the past year, PRMI has grown its personnel by more than 150 and has opened over 80 new branches nationwide.
Salt Lake City – THE INN BETWEEN, a nonprofit organization and Utah’s first hospice house for the homeless, accepted its first residents. Even though the INN Between held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in May, it has been unable to accept residents until now due to zoning changes and construction issues. The INN Between is located at 344 S. Goshen Street. In the past, the Guadalupe School occupied the buildings, although these have been vacant for about two years.
Salt Lake City – HEALTHEQUITY, INC., one of the nation’s largest HSA custodians, broke ground on a new building at its Draper headquarters to accommodate the company’s rapid growth. The nation’s first non-bank health savings account custodian, HealthEquity currently employs over 550 team members, 515 of whom are based in Utah. The new building, with capacity for up to 430 additional team members, will create space for the company’s growing engineering, member service education and operations teams.
Salt Lake City – UTAH NON PROFIT HOUSING CORPORATION (UNPHC), celebrated its 50th anniversary with the unveiling of its new administrative office building. UNPHC will be sharing the new office building with Western Region Non Profit Housing Corporation. The space allows for continued growth and expansion for both nonprofit entities, while bringing state-of-the-art technologies online to enhance educational outreach and programming capacity for their residents.
Salt Lake City – MOUNTAIN WEST RETAIL AND INVESTMENT announced the opening of a new R&R BARBEQUE restaurant to be located at the former Denny’s on 10646 S. 300 West in South Jordan. MWRI retail specialist Andy Moffitt and Newmark Grubb ACRES co-founder Zach Anderson represented R&R, the buyer in this transaction. Joseph Mills and Robert Sweeney, also of MWRI, represented the seller, Signal Corporation. R&R Barbecue’s first location was opened just over two years ago in downtown Salt Lake City.
