Let’s face it—not very many people can honestly say they love going to work each morning. But, employees notice when executives strive to create happier workplaces. The 2013 Best Companies to Work For do just that and much, much more. From providing traditional benefits like solid healthcare plans and retirement packages to offering unique perks like company-wide vacations and catered meals, these companies do whatever it takes to create a place where people want to work. For these companies, keeping employees happy isn’t just about enhancing productivity, it’s about creating a place where people feel valued and cared for—a place where life outside of the office matters as much as the bottom line. How do we determine the Best Companies to Work For?
Any company with a Utah presence is encouraged to participate in the Best Companies to Work For program. The process involves two surveys: one for a company’s HR/corporate department to complete, and the other for the company’s employees to complete. The surveys asks questions about benefits and compensation, growth opportunities, company culture, management, etc. Once the surveys have been completed, the responses are scored based on point system and the highest-ranking organizations are deemed Best Companies to Work For.
Small: Companies with 15 to 99 employees.
Lendio is an online service that matches small business owners with active banks, credit unions and other lending sources.
Lendio knows one of the best ways to show employees appreciation is by making them equal members of a team. “At Lendio it is not all about salary or promotion,” one employee says. “It is about being trusted to do what is asked of you to the best of your ability. We win as a team and fail as a team.”
The company also emphasizes that employees should have a healthy work/life balance. It offers unlimited paid time off so that employees can rejuvenate and take care of issues outside of work.
And then there are the little things. Lendio’s employees have access to a break room with a ping-pong table and foosball table; a refrigerator stocked with free soft drinks, fruit juices and sports drinks; and multiple chances to recognize each other for their accomplishments.

GroSocial develops social media marketing software and training services to businesses.
GroSocial has a fitting name: Employee after employee praises the company for its social and fun environment. A comment from one employee sums it up well: “The culture of GroSocial is one of my favorite things about working here. We have a lot of fun, wear clothes we're comfortable in, and work in a completely open space. No one has their own office.”
Another employee agrees: “The people and culture are incredible. There is a mutual trust that exists amongst everyone in the office that makes it easy to work together and get things done.”
The company also allows flexible schedules and doesn’t closely track time off. Instead, it trusts each employee to work hard and take time off when needed. “I feel great about working here and don't see any limits or caps on where this job could take me,” an employee says.

TEKsystems is a staffing and workforce management company.
This isn’t the first time TEKsystems has drawn attention for being a great place to work. The company was ranked this year by Fortune as one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For nationally.
Employees praise the sense of camaraderie and cooperation at TEKsystems. “I don’t think that there is any company that can match the compassion that everyone has for their jobs and for those around them,” one employee says.
That sense of connection extends beyond the office as well. “I can honestly say that I have made true lifelong friends at TEKsystems,” another employee says. “We are always supporting one another not just professionally but personally as well.”
